PBS Distribution Secures Global Partners for Climate Special

ARTE, Channel 4, SBS and NOVA have partnered with PBS Distribution for Rain Bombs.

“We’re proud to bring this important story to audiences worldwide and collaborate with partners who understand the urgency and global relevance of a story like Rain Bombs,” said Eniela Bella, director of co-production finance sales at PBS Distribution.

Produced by Blink Films, Rain Bombs dives into a phenomenon referred to as downbursts—also called wet microbursts—violent columns of cold air crashing from the sky, responsible for a series of destructive recent events, including the sinking of a £14 million superyacht off Sicily and the collapse of a Belgian music festival.

The one-hour documentary also explores the latest scientific advances aimed at predicting and mitigating the impact of these dangerous and life-threatening storms.

“It’s rare to find such an extraordinary phenomenon that hasn’t already been explored in depth by television,” said Dan Chambers, creative director at Blink Films. “The more we’ve looked into the science of how they occur and the damage they can do, the more intriguing they become. And because of global warming, they’re getting more extreme.”

“We are excited to be exploring the science behind this rising but little-known phenomenon,” said Helene Ganichaud, head of specialist factual and natural history at ARTE.
